Azize Sousami

Artistic Director of Contemporary Dance

Azize is a contemporary dancer, choreographer and screen dance artist based in London.

Having lived in Kos, Greece and trained at Ballerinas and Dreams Performing Arts School from the age of three, they have always wanted to pursue a career in the arts. They were able to train in an assortment of dance styles such as classical ballet, modern jazz, hip hop, lyrical and more.

Azize went on to complete their BA in Dance Studies at Roehampton University, where they explored their interest in improvisation, choreography and filmmaking as well as integrating their interests in poetry, philosophy and literature. Having done a screendance module during their BA, they were mesmerised by film and dance and the choreography and art of camera and the body. They are currently doing the MA Screendance at the London Contemporary Dance School, in which they are currently creating their debut short film for the end of term.

Their work is heavily research based and often includes collaborating with other artists in the process. Their work critically dives deep into subjects such as personal relationships, feelings, imaginary lifetimes, and spiritual connections; work about living and breathing, leaving and losing and everything magical that's in-between.

They've worked as a dance teacher, rehearsal director for Third Row Dance Company, and Artistic Director running various university events like Dance Platform which was a choreographic showcase. Their recent choreographic work GravitationalField01 made for Third Row Dance Company 2020-2021 cohort, debuted in June 2021. Their screendance film The Baggage I(We!) carry was selected for MicroMania Film Fest 2020.
